2 out of 5 stars Uses ink even when you don't print!   September 1, 2010
S. Paquin (Montreal, Quebec Canada)
The Canon IP4600 uses a ridiculous amount of ink.

We needed a printer mostly to print black on white documents, but our color ink cartridges go empty even if we don't print photos or colors. I have never seen a printer drink so much ink in so little time.

The printer will also refuse to print once one of the color cartridge is empty, even if you need to print something black.

1 out of 5 stars Worst Printer Ever Made   August 27, 2010
Richard J. Corrigan (San Diego, CA)
Save your money. This product stinks. Using the 2-sided feature, you waste several sheets of paper before you can get your 2-sided print. It's extremely slow. It breaks down all of the time. I've tried giving this printer away, and no one will take it.

1 out of 5 stars When will the printer cartridge scam end?   June 10, 2010

Is it technologically possible to make a printer that doesn't run out of ink so quickly, with such high cartridge replacement costs?

Why can't black and white text be printed without using the color cartridges?

Is the industry even trying to make better printers?

This printer is very irritating. It appears to be low quality construction. It is slow. The features are minimal (you can't print black and white even).
The cost of cartridge replacement is a substantial percentage of the price of the printer itself! If the cartridges are really worth this much, this implies the printer itself is worth almost nothing. And that's what it feels like.

Canon's camera's are great (based on my observation from owning 2 of them); but this printer is awful. I don't even look forward to throwing it away. Caveat emptor.

2 out of 5 stars Waste of my money   June 8, 2010
Rainbow Nonna (Connecticut, USA)
I bought this printer so that I could print out pictures of my family. Especially those of my grandson who has moved across country. I also needed to print out some documents, well by the time I printed the documents the ink was used up and there went the option of printing pictures. The ink cartridges for this model are way too expensive.
Also, it takes for ever for this printer to initialize. It sits there and clicks away for what seems like forever before it even starts to print.

Set up was easy, however this printer makes a lot of noise, is too slow and is not cost effective when it comes to replacing ink cartridges. It is now a paper weight. I will buy an HP with more features, better bundled ink replacement options, and better quality pictures.

1 out of 5 stars Do not buy this printer   April 13, 2010

I purchased this printer for the sole purpose of printing out papers for school. I don't need to print pictures or anything like that, which is why this printer seemed like a good option. It's relatively cheap and supposedly was an alright printer. My main problem with this printer are that you need to replace the ink cartridges almost bi-monthly (and I'm not an English major, I'm a culinary student, so I'm not writing and printing a whole lot of papers) and the ink cartridges aren't exactly cheap (about $60 for all of them together). The other problem, which is actually more annoying than shelling out that much money a year for ink, is that the paper feeder constantly jams and you are required to manually remove the paper tray, clear the paper jam, then press the reset button on the printer. This happens on average about 3 times during the printing of an eight page paper. Not the best track record. You can find other printers with less expensive ink replacements and certainly with better performance than this one. I would have given this printer a zero star rating if I could have, but I suppose it is easy to set up, so it gets a 1 star rating. Don't waste your money.
